Any questions regarding CGC please call Sheila at (603) 382-3679 Checks for CGC should be made to: Merrimack Valley Kennel Club or MVKC Rosettes offered by Danville Rainbow Association

CGC Tester Nancy Brett, 240 Beede hill Rd., Fremont, Nh 03044 After signing the Responsible Dog Owner's Pledge, owners and their dog are ready to take the

CGC Test.

Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:

Test 1: Accept a friendly stranger. Test 6: Sit and down on command and staying in place.

Test 2: Sitting politely for petting. Test 7: Coming when called.

Test 3: Appearance and grooming. Test 8: Reaction to another dog.

Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead). Test 9: Reaction to distraction.

Test 5: Walking through a crowd. Test 10: Supervised separation.

All tests must be performed on leash. Dogs should wear well-fitting buckle or slip collars made of leather, fabric, or chain. Special training collars may be very useful tools for beginning dog trainers, however, we feel that dogs are ready to take the CgC test at the point at which they are transitioned to regular collars.

The evaluator supplies a 20 foot lead for the test. The owner/handler should bring the dog's brush or comb to the test.

Owners/handlers may use praise and encouragement throughout the test. The owner may pet the dog between exercises. Food and treats are not permitted during testing, nor is the use of toys, squeaky toys, etc. to get the dog to do something. We recognize that food and toys may provide valuable reinforcement or encouragement during the training process but these items should not be used during the test.

Any dogs that eliminates during testing must be marked failed. The only exception to this rule is that elimination is allowable in test item 10, but only when test item 10 is held outdoors.

(Any dog that growls, snaps, bites, attacks, or attempts to attack a person or another dog is not a good citizen and must be dismissed from the test.) (Full information is available at www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm) Canine Good Citizen Test

The purpose of the CgC Program is to ensure that the dog can be a respected member of the community because it has been trained to be well behaved in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs. The CgC Program welcomes both purebred and mixed breed dogs. Requirements: Dogs must be old enough to have received necessary immunizations such as rabies vaccines. Bring your dog's grooming brush or comb with you. have your dog's 6 ft. leash (no flexi leashes). Dogs taking the CgC test must wear either a plain buckle, flat buckle, or slip collar (no harness, pinch collars or head halters.) <{>Type or Print >P>Name .......................................................................................................................................................

Not eventually, not after calling 12 times, but NOW! This seminar will show you how to build your reinforcement history, as well as train a rock solid recall - with distractions. For all breeds of dogs and all skill levels of trainers and pet owners. 10% discount on whistles, curriculum and DVD for all attendees. Announcement: Pam Dennison Seminar - Saturday, September 21st 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm ($75.00 before August 1st, $85.00 after. Auditing $50) Loose Leash walking clinic - good for all levels, & all level trainers, including pet owners.

One of the problems that most trainers and owners encounter are dogs pulling on leash. Some dogs make it an art form. Many trainers (and owners) may look at teaching loose leash walking as a single skill and yet it isn't. It's a behavior that has many approximations that are unfortunately overlooked. To that end, some "tools of torture" are used to rectify the problem - prong collars, choke collars, shock collars, head halters, front hook harnesses, two points of contact ,hobbles, etc. This 1/2 day seminar will show you how to train your student's dog or your own dog to walk nicely on a leash without any other tools than a relationship, some food, toys, soft hands and play. Pam says she will also throw heeling in for free!

Announcement: Pam Dennison Seminar - Sunday, September 22nd 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Cleaning up your act!! ($100 before August 1st, $125 after. Auditing $70) The fussy and meticulous behaviors needed for Competition obedience, rally & CDSP - This seminar is for competition obedience, rally and CDSP. Also addressed - becoming variable and unpredictable, as well as new fun and positive ways to train the more complicated behaviors. This 1 day seminar will address all levels of these three sports.

Cleaning Up Your Act is for those dogs and handlers that have some basic experience in competition obedience/rally, such as heeling, turns, etc., but want to step it up a notch and clean up their performances. Each of the behaviors are taught in easy to teach and understand “snippets,” so that both you and your dog can be successful. Or... if you and your dog don't have much at all, this course is a great way to get it right from the beginning, so there's nothing to clean up!

Pam says: “Think your breed of dog can't do competition? I’ve worked with many non-traditional dogs, so all ages, breeds and skill levels are WELCOME! This course will also discuss problem solving - how to recognize there’s an issue and some different ways of fixing it. Also discussed is the use of props - how to use them and how to fade them and how, if at all possible, to avoid them altogether. We will be implementing subtle body changes and fine tuning your cues to be clear, distinct and effective.”

“I never train my own dogs or my students dogs just one level at a time - I like to lay an early foundation on all behaviors. I train Competition obedience, rally and CDSP simultaneously. You’ll see that this course has some elements from all levels.”
