I wanted to see if it was possible to get a Championship on a 5 year old male gordon setter who has never been shown. You see this wasn't just any dog to me. This is my boy Bomag who was born not long after I had brain tumor surgery and several complications. He was the only pup in his litter and to my mind he was, and always will be, gorgeous. He was also a very needed distraction for me while I recooperated and when my mother was killed not too long after my surgery. Bomag became my security blanket. Having several cognitive issues after the surgery I carried him around everywhere, not realizing the spoiled monster I was creating. He slept pretty much on top of me and we were never apart for the first 4.5 years of his life. Since I rarely left my property during that time and live 1/3 mile from my closest neighbor Bomag never met another person other then my vet, my husband and myself. Bo became afraid of people, actually terrified is a more apt description. Prior to my surgery I knew that this was not the way to raise a Gordon Setter but afterwards, for the first couple years it never occured to me what was happening. I started to train him on a show lead and to stack. He had been shaved down but I started to let his coat grow back in. It certainly wasn't pretty having a person who frequently lost her balance trying to teach a 90lb Gordon how to gait. Stacking always ended up with him looking up at me or trying to give me multiple kisses which would bring a smile to my face, then laughter and we would fall in a pile of silliness. Not the way to train a show dog! I mentioned my hair-brained scheme to good friend Sarah Crepeau who had co-owned, and shown in Juniors, Bomag's Grampa Devon with me. She was willing to give it a try and I told her it would be her biggest challenge to date. When I met Sarah last November at a show to bring Bo to her for "boot camp" he was just a quivering mass of Gordon and it broke my heart but I knew he was in great hands. Bomag has come a long way in the last few months and we are so very proud of him! He started his show career in May 2012 earning Reserve Winners Dog to a 4 pt major at the TarTan GSC Supported entry, his first all breed show and easily finished his Championship in Oct. 2012, winning BOW at the TarTan GSC Specialty along the way as well. Bomag also quickly earned his Grand CH finishing on April 6, 2013! I am so very proud of this boy!
