ED GILLESPIE
Ed Gillespie fell in love with his first Doberman (who made obedience training a necessity of life) in 1956. It didn't take long for him to find out that "dogs are like potato chips; you can't stop with just one!"
By 1958 Ed was exhibiting in both Obedience and Conformation as well as teaching training classes. The Doberman Gang shared the homestead with Poodles, Manchesters, Akitas and Aussies, but "his breed" will always be Dobes.
In 1971 Ed was approved to judge Novice Obedience classes and is now approved to judge all classes. He was chosen the "Obedience Man of the Year" in 1974 by the Pennsylvania Federation of Dog Clubs. He also served on the Show Committee for the 1984 AKC Centennial Dog Show and Obedience Trial. He has been Obedience Chairman for the Bryn Mawr Kennel Club since 1968 and continues to teach obedience for the local adult night school as well as his own school.
Ed still competes (he is now showing a "rescue" Dobe) and firmly believes it's good for a judge to get on the other side of the clipboard now and then.
