Eric began in dogs in 1970 with a puppy from Rosemarie Roberts' world-famous "Dinro" Dane Kennels. He competed in Junior Showmanship and obtained an AKC apprentice handler's license to Dinro, where he was schooled in all aspects of breeding and showing dogs. During free time he also helped handlers such as the Forsyths and Capones.
Upon completing college studies he embarked on a handling career, first based for several years in New York, then California. He completed Championships on more than 100 Danes, including several top winners and influential producers. He enjoyed successes in other breeds as well.
In 1990, AKC offered Eric a position on its executive staff as Administrator of Judges Education. He produced, edited, and co-wrote breed standard videos for more than 80 breeds. "It was truly a privilege and unique learning experience to work with, and pick the brains of, some of our top judges and veteran breeders regarding the finer points of each breed." It was this effort, in addition to his previous experience, that made Eric feel prepared to be a judge. He currently judges eight of the Working breeds.
Eric enjoys both the dogs and the interesting people and friends he has met over the years. He looks forward to a progressive future for the sport, its participants and dogs in general.
