My life literally began because of dogs; my parents had some difficulty in maintaining a pregnancy, and after doing some work with Dr. Huff on keeping bitches pregnant, my father talked my mother's OBGYN into trying some of the same methods on his wife!
I was born into Alaskan Malamutes, but my dad handled numerous breeds until I was about five or six years old. He then decided to stop showing dogs, thinking that a life on the road was no place for a child. I convinced him otherwise a few years later, and I proudly entered the Junior Showmanship ring with my Alaskan Malamute at the age of ten. I continue to breed and show my family's Alaskan Malamutes, and we are one of only a few people left in the country breeding and showing pure Kotzebue Alaskan Malamutes. I have also had much success in showing and breeding Beagles and Bearded Collies.
I applied to be a Junior Showmanship judge after years of showing in Juniors, obtaining my teaching certification, handling numerous dogs, and working with kids at camps, in 4H, and through coaching various sports. I believe that Juniors really are the future, and I want to do my part to help teach and educate the young people involved in dogs today.
