Gary began his life in the dog show community over 5 decades ago in 1958. He started grooming, training and showing Cocker Spaniels working at Glenshaw Kennels in 1960. He also showed his first Dachshund, a miniature smooth in 1960. Gary also raised and exhibited Schipperkes, Miniature Schnauzers, Norwegian Elkhounds, and Pointers. He started teaching conformation classes in 1960 and he continues to teach group and private handling classes today. Gary was a member of the Professional Handlers Association from 1966-1990, finishing over 100 dogs in all seven groups, putting championship titles on many dogs and numerous group placements. He operated a successful boarding / grooming kennel for 28 years and is also a Life Member of the Beaver County Kennel Club and the Beaver County Humane Society. He has served on the board and is past Vice President of the Shawnee Kennel Club. Gary was the recipient of The Gaines Medal for Good Sportsmanship, sharing that honor in the company of such distinguished dog fanciers and judges as Anne Clark, Kitty Drury, Edeltraud Laurin, and Robert Sharp. This award was specifically designated to honor those whose contributions were vital to the success of a dog club. It was also awarded to honor those who competed fairly and worked for the advancement of the sport without regard to personal honors. He currently judges Junior Showmanship, Dachshunds and Beagles.
