With a love of dogs since childhood, Barbara and her late husband, Karl, established Karin Kennels in 1955. Very active in Weimaraners in the '50's, they moved on to Elkhounds in 1960. A small hobby kennel dedicated to the betterment of purebred dogs, her kennel holds a permanent registration with the Canadian Kennel Club.
To date, Barbara is the only Canadian to have bred and shown a Norwegian Elkhound to Best in Show at the Norwegian Elkhound Club of America's National Specialty Show. She has had numerous dogs in the Top 10 in the U.S. and Canada. She has also owned and shown Skye Terriers and during the past three years she has been involved with Australian Cattle Dogs. Originally bought to help work her 1500-acre ranch in Northern Ontario, they quickly found their way to the show ring as well.
Mrs. Innes began judging matches in 1977 and was approved in 1990. She now judges all Hounds, Terriers, front half of Herding, and is presently working on the last half of the Herding breeds.
A Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club, she has judged in Britain, the US and, of course, Canada. She is a member of the NEAA, the NECC, the NEC of Britain, on the executive board of the Temiskaming Kennel Club, as well as holding several positions in other clubs over the years.
