Joseph M. Skarbek, or "Bud" as he prefers, became interested in the sport of Obedience in 1974. It all began with a Siberian Husky his wife, Judy, took to obedience school. Bud liked what he saw and got a male Siberian to train and show. He has put Obedience titles on Siberian Huskies, a Labrador Retriever and Golden Retrievers. In addition, he has three TD titles and two TDX titles to his credit.
Bud has been active as an Obedience Instructor since 1980. Along with his wife he has owned and operated an obedience school, The Arlington Academy for Dogs, for several years. He has been active with various dog clubs over the years, having served as President to the Texas Tri-City Obedience Club and the Siberian Husky Club of Dallas. He has also been involved in the Gaines event as an exhibitor and worker. He is a Charter Member of the Southwest Obedience Association and assisted at all three Dallas events.
Mr. Skarbek began his AKC judging career in 1990 as a provisional Novice judge. He has since been approved as a regular judge for all obedience classes, Novice through Utility.
Although Bud's judging career is of recent vintage, he has had considerable experience judging both sanctioned matches and fun matches since the late 1970's. He keeps current by attending obedience training seminars, AKC judging seminars, and most importantly showing his Golden Retriever.
