Ron Besoff's first involvement in the sport of dogs was with the purchase of an Afghan Hound in 1970, but it was to be the successful show career of a Dalmatian bitch purchased in 1973 that was to set the pattern for his wife and him. Since then their dogs have not been outside the winning circle, having won over 200 Bests in Show at both the All-Breed and Specialty level. The success of their breeding kennels is just as well known with over 80 champions owned and bred by them. Dogs from their kennel have been sent to all Australian States and many were exported to Europe, Asia and New Zealand that have had signigicant influences on the breed in those places. They have also owned, exhibited and bred the greatest winning Dalmatian in Australian breed history, "Ch. Swiftgait MyLord Duke," who won 37 Best in Show awards.
While their major involvement is in Dalmatians, they have both owned and exhibited Best in Show winning Pointers and Boston Terriers. They have also been involved in breeding and exhibiting Labrador Retrievers, British Bulldogs and Dobermans that have all been Best in Show winners.
Involvement in club administration has been extensive and he has held most club positions at one time or another. He is currently President of Cessnock All Breeds and Obedience Kennel Club and Secretary of The Lakes District Canine Club, both clubs running two major Championship shows each year with entries in excess of 1000 dogs. He is also responsible for the organization of three Championship shows for local Agricultural Societies. He has written extensively for both local and international dog publications and has been involved in lecturing and examining at Judges Training Schemes and has been Chairman of the Hunter Region Committee of the RNSWCC.
Mr. Besoff (BA Dip. Educ) is a secondary high school Deputy Principal in Australia. He was first licensed to judge in Australia in 1980 and is now licensed to judge all breeds. He has judged extensively throughout Australia and has judged on numerous occasions in New Zealand and America. He has also judged in French New Caledonia, The Phillipines and Ireland. He and his wife, also a judge, enjoy judging and meeting new people.
