I grew up with German Shorthairs, and while in high school my parents switched to German Wirehaired Pointers.  I got my first GWP in 1978. I have hunted over, bred, trained GWP's and Gordon Setters since the early 70's.  I have bred/and finished over 25 AKC Champions.   We have enjoyed hunting with them as well as having them for companions and raising them with our family. 

The saying that "conformation follows function" is ever so true for a sporting dog.  They must be able to move correctly, have proper coat, and be sound mentally and physically in order to be a succesful hunting dog.
