Toddie and husband, Houston, became active in dogs in 1957. Although busy with their four children (Debbie, Jay, Marty and Sharon), Toddie became more interested in Houston's dog training hobby when his interest changed from Obedience to Conformation.
They built a boarding, grooming and show kennel in the mid-60's and Houston became an all-breed handler. Over the years they intermittently bred, owned and showed German Shepherd Dogs, Miniature Pinschers and Doberman Pinschers. Toddie managed the kennel, did the book work and hired and trained the kennel and show help. She applied for and received her all-breed handler's license in 1970.
During their professional handling careers they handled numerous breeds in all the Groups and had multiple Group and Best in Show dogs in all seven Groups. During their professional handling careers they won the Quaker Oats Award for the Number One Sporting Dog in the country with two different dogs three times, and won the Quaker Oats Number One Top Toy once. Toddie was once a nominee for Best Female Handler. She has written articles for various magazines, the latest being "Toy Talk" in Showsight.
The Clarks retired to become judges in 1986. Houston and Toddie have been members of the Chattanooga (TN) Kennel Club since 1965. They recently moved to a rural golf and lake community in Decatur, TN.
