Mr. McFarlane has been active in the breeding and showing of purebred dogs for over 35 years, starting briefly with Irish Setters and since 1972 with English Cocker Spaniels.  Together, with his wife Marleta and daughter Marissa O’Connor they have bred and shown both parti-color and solid color English Cockers under the “Marimac” prefix.  They have bred and owned both Specialty and Group winning dogs and continue to maintain an active breeding program.  They have imported dogs from both England and Canada. 

Mr. McFarlane has been judging for over 15 years and is currently approved by the AKC to judge multiple sporting breeds. He has judged in the U.S., Canada and Australia.   He is a member of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America, the ECS Club of Canada, the American Spaniel Club, the London Cocker Society and the Long Beach Kennel Club.  He is a founding member of the ECS Club of Southern California and the Cocker Spaniel Club of Orange County; and a charter member of the ECS Club of San Diego and Shoreline DFA All-Breed Club in Southern Orange County, California.  He is past president of the ECSCA, past president of Shoreline DFA, past member of the Board of the ASC, and is currently Chairman of the Scientific Research Committee of the ASC Health Foundation and Sporting Group Director of the Long Beach KC.

Outside of the dog activities, Mr. McFarlane is retired from Southern California Edison and is continuing to work as a Management Consultant.
