Tom Conway was born, grew up and developed his love for all animals and birds in Western New York. While still a middle school student he bred and exhibited homebred Collies and English Toy Spaniels in the mid-1940's. His Locklsey Hall Kennels was registered with the AKC in 1947 and since that time has continuously bred and shown dogs.
Even while serving on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War, he maintained his kennel and had his dogs shown. He has finished champions in eight different breeds -- all owned solely by himself. He still maintains a breeding program in Dachshunds and English Toy Spaniels as well as Pembroke Welsh Corgis, with dogs currently shown by handlers in all parts of the U.S.
Tom began judging in 1958 with AKC approval for a single breed. Today he is approved to judge six-and-a-half Groups, including Sporting, Hounds, Working, Toys, Non-Sporting, Herding and half of the Terrier Group. He currently judges all over the world and officiates at some 75 shows each year.
He has served as an officer and Show Chairman of all-breed and specialty clubs since 1956 and is still active in club activities. He has been a pioneer in judges education, founding and participating in dog judges educational associations. He is a regular lecturer and instructor at the AKC Institutes and has received widespread recognition as a writer in the international dog press.
