Pierluigi is an Italian Physician-Scientist (MD, PhD in Molecular Endocrinology and US Board certified technologist in Molecular Pathology) residing in California with his beloved Mastinos. He has inherited his father passion for the breed who got deeply involved with thesw dogs starting in 1973. Pierluigi has always been surrounded by a mastino since he was five. Thanks to his father who was an authentic mastinaro appreciated for his particular knowledge of the old lines, Pierluigi learns about the different types intrinsic to the breed and the (true) Italian pedigrees. In the late 80s he owns Dafne, which is described in Cesarino’s book as one of the best females for this breed ever. After his father death in 1990, as a medical resident, Pierluigi remains close to the breed: he follows tightly the breed evolution and its standard revisions, actively collaborates with renown Italian mastinari as a member of “Cacep” and later as a member of the Italian national breed Club (SAMN). After a few years from his father death, Pierluigi goes back to its family roots: with his first paycheck as a physician resident in Endocrinology at the University of Catania in Italy he buys a beautiful female (Rubella), which places third at the 1996 at the International Dog Show in Naples, Italy and wins a BOB in 1997 at the International dog show in Catania , Italy. After moving to California in 1998 with his wife Lia, Pierluigi starts his personal selection by importing Italian stocks with specific blood lines that he has followed since the late 80s which become part of his USA kennel foundation under the suffix “Del Feudo Nisseno”. In the year 2000 he co-founds the American Society for the Preservation of the Neapolitan Mastiff (ASPNM) with the goal of translating the Italian expertise for the breed overseas and over four years as president organizes seven high quality breed specialties and educational seminars with Italian breed experts. Since AKC breed recognition in 04’, Pierluigi has bred and/or finished seven champions including the first Bred-By exhibitor in US history (Tarquinia), two Eukanuba/Wenstminster BOB Champions (Ch.Aragorn and Ch.Traiano, the latter also scoring number one dog for 2006 and 2007 AB points), two renown US reproducers (Flavia and Ferdinando) and one Russian BOB/BIS Ch. (Joshua). He is an AKC judge for the Neapolitan Mastiff in the US and has judged the breed also in Canada and Mexico. Pierluigi is actively involved in breed education as member of the USNMC and as has been an invited speaker at breed seminars since before breed recognition. He has been serving as Chairman for the breed health Committee and is also a founder of the Neapolitan mastiff Club of Southern California and member of the Antelope Valley Kennel Club. In his professional career, Pierluigi is involved in basic and applied Cancer Research which he carries out in Californian research Institutions.
