Lt. Col. William B. Garvey (DECEASED)
220-B Heritage Village
Southbury, CT 06488
2032641311
Lt/Col. Garvey was born and raised in California. His formative years were spent in the cattle and mining area of Sonora.
World War II overtook his future planning and the US Armed Forces pilot training program became the focus of his life. Lt. Garvey did a combat tour in P38 Fighters over Italy, ending with the cessation of hostilities in Europe.
War again intervened in Lt/Col Garvey's life with the Korean conflict and the need for combat trained pilots. After a tour of 100 missions in F86 jet fighters, Lt/Col. Garvey became a career officer serving first as a test pilot and then as a staff officer. His tours of duty took him to Germany, Hawaii, Vietnam, Korea and Japan. In all Lt/Col. Garvey was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses, seven Air Medals and two Combat Unit Citations.
Upon retirement in 1969, Lt/Col. Garvey and his wife pursued her lifelong dream of breeding and showing Old English Sheepdogs. Their first, an imported bitch, was a fortunate beginning for Barrelroll Kennels. Their breeding program produced some 23 Champions, including a National Specialty BIS and multiple BIS dogs -- all owner-handled.
As of this writing, Lt/Col. Garvey judges Groups 3 and 7, plus BIS.
