Don Teague has lived in Columbia, S.C. for most of his life. "South Carolina is known for its unhurried but social attitude toward living, which has always suited his personality."
He worked as an auditor for the State government for 32 years until his retirement. Throughout the years dogs and dog people have been major influences in his life. He was voted in December as the first lifetime member of the Columbia Kennel Club and received a meritorious award; served as its Treasurer for 15 years, as a board member for 20 years, and as President.
He began showing German Shepherd Dogs and Doberman Pinschers professionally and worked for seven years to attain an AKC license as an all-breed handler. For the past eight years he has been an AKC approved judge of five breeds.
Having dogs and taking pride in them is a trait his parents helped teach him when they gave him his first dog, a Newfoundland, when he was five. Midways Midnight lived 10 years; his second dog, a Collie, lived to be 14. His first show dog was a Boxer he purchased when he was 16.
He began breeding Doberman Pinschers in 1970 and Boxers in 1984. Although judging is a rewarding experience, "I still very much enjoy the proving ground of competition in the breed ring and the camaraderie of friends at dog shows." He is currently approved to judge the following:
