"I had the privilege of training my first three dogs under the direction of the late Blanch Saunders, one of the great pioneers of Obedience." Her inspiration led to Joan putting 10 Standard Poodles and one Norwich Terrier through obedience.

She has conducted obedience training classes at all levels for several clubs in the area and currently teaches training courses for adult education.

She became an AKC obedience judge in 1970 and has been approved to judge all obedience classes since 1974. She continues to train and exhibit -- "I believe that training and showing my own dogs helps me to be a more knowledgeable and understanding judge."
