About the Breeder:
Laura Rader has a versatile background when in comes to dogs and horses that dates back to her childhood. Over the past 25 years, she has experienced showing and breeding, American Cockers, Welsh Corgi’s, Jack Russell Terriers. When Laura was a teenager, she showed Arabian Horses in 4-H and then was a professional horse trainer as a young adult. During her college years, Laura ventured oversees to Denmark and Iceland. While in Denmark she met up with her long time Danish Arabian horse friend and then hopped over to Iceland to ride Iceland horses and visit the future cove for the famous killer whale, Keiko. The summer of 2003, Laura attended the Iditarod teacher conference in Wasilla, Alaska. During her visit, she learned a great deal about breeding, nutrition/health care, training and race preparation of sled dogs. Her most absorbing experience was meeting and touring dog kennels of several famous mushers such as Martin Buser, Linda Plettner, and Wayne Curtis (a Siberian Husky breeder). This was an adventure of a life time!! Laura’s dedication and love for animals ultimately led her to the Newfoundland dogs because of their human-like characteristics. In 2001, Laura purchased her first Newfy and immediately entered back into the show world. Her dream came true when her first Newfy finished in 12 shows!!
Avalon Bey Newfoundlands is an active member of the Newfoundland Dog Club of America and the Southeastern Newfoundland Club. We are a small kennel that is up and coming into the Newfoundland breed. The Goal for Avalon Bey Newfoundlands is to breed top quality-healthy show dogs. In addition, we strive to have our dogs perform their “true jobs”-carting and water rescue. I show and train my dogs and most importantly I love all of my dogs.
I have young dogs out showing now, currently having 5 of my Newf puppies out showing right now. I have plans to finish these 5 puppies by October 31, 2008, which will bring my number of champion dogs bred from 0 to 5 and also give the mother of these puppies-hopefully top producing bitch for this year. These same 5 young dogs are all entered in this year's Newfoundland National being held in Rhode Island. I have plans for the second litter that was born this past November to be out showing in the fall.
