About the Breeder:
Kernow has been our kennel name since the 1970’s. I started breeding Labrador Retrievers with my friend in the late ‘60’s. Over the 25 years to follow we bred and finished many Labrador and several other breed champions. In the 1980’s and into the early ‘90’s I owned a kennel and bred Labradors in England as well as the US. In 1982 I was given two Border terrier puppies from a Labrador breeder friend and the joy of owning this wonderful breed began. In 1986 I adopted BT #3 from another Labrador friend. Over the 10 years, following the arrival of #3, I sold my kennel in England and left the Labradors breed completely. In 1996 Susie and I were looking for a BT to show. I contacted an old friend that had been in Borders for many years and she suggested that we attend the BT National specialty. As fate would have it we brought home a 9 month old puppy that became the breed’s Group and Best in Show titleholder, Glenlair’s American Beauty. In 25 months of being shown as a champion, Beauty set the breed record for Terrier Group and all breed Best in Show’s wins. Beauty is now retired from the show ring, and is working in her self appointed roll as head bed warmer.
Thanks to the efforts of our friend Dail Coral, Krispin Border Terriers, Ch. Talex Toscanini arrived here from Scotland in 2001, a great dog in his own right. In the 10 months of his show carrier he won 23 Groups, 2 Best in Shows and placed in an additional 26 Groups. Fiddler is at stud in our kennel and has several Champion get to his credit.
Susie and I continue to exhibit dogs, although our commitment to rearing and breeding keeps us from attending as many shows as we did when Beauty was on the show circuit. We don’t have time to train or exhibit our dogs in any venue other than conformation, but we encourage our puppy parents to try all of the available forms of Border competition.
We screen our breeding stock for all know and developing genetic and congenital heath problems. We spend an inordinate amount of time with our dogs and puppies to insure that we stay on course with health, selection, and phenotype.
