About the Breeder:
Clearview Australian Shepherds evolved from a love of my grandfather (Frank Allen), his farm (Clearview Farm), the dogs that worked it and the interactions of the three. My grandfather’s beef and grain farm was outside a small town called Homer in central Illinois.
My grandfather and I were bonded at an early age even before I was really self-aware. At the age of two in the mid sixties I had open-heart surgery at a time when it was probably equivalent to brain surgery now days. My making it through the surgery at that age was not a sure thing by far. It was enough to bring the stoic farmer of the ranch and into the big city, which through out his life was always something to be avoided. The sight of his small grandchild connected to enough tubing to make the child nearly invisible confronted him. This was by far the luckiest moment of my life. It was from that moment on that we were unconditionally linked. I now had an additional father, mentor and protector.
Coming from a divorced family I spent many a summer on Clearview Farm. It involved much satisfying hard work and an appreciation of nature and the creatures with in. My life during summers was not filled with cartoon characters, but charters that you could touch and feel. The main cast members were Australian Shepherds (Red, Blue and King)(Grandpa was never very creative about the namesJ) that each summer seemingly awaited my arrival with at least as much anticipation as I yearned for that last bell to sound to release me for the summer and a renewing of old friendships. I had some of my best a defiantly some of my hardest experiences growing up with this cast of characters. The wonder of watching grandpa work as if through telepathy with the dogs. The heart break of losing your best friend right before your eyes and his final act of loyalty and devotion.
I lost my Grandfather in 2002 about a year after having my second heart surgery (Pulmonary valve replacement) and hopefully last. He died with grace and dignity and just seemed to be holding on long enough that he could assure himself that I was going to be ok. Frank Allen was the type of man that I strive to be. There are enough stories of him, the farm and the dogs to fill a book and perhaps someday I will put them all on paper.
I realize this is much more in-depth and personal than you get with things like this, but it is impossible for me to separate the two.
Everything we do at Clearview Australian Shepherds is to honor that man and those friends that I grew up with. We consider the care of the Australian Shepherd breed to be a true stewardship and dedicate all of our efforts to protecting and improving the breed.
